چکیده

• CO oxidation over Pd 75% Ag 25% (100) studied by NAP-XPS. Reversed hysteresis in 2 formation during heating and cooling ramps observed. Hysteresis behaviour depends on exposure, rate, maximum temperature, sample history. Dynamic changes Pd/Ag surface composition cycling to 450 °C or 600 Relatively facile kinetics of segregation that proceeds even at ambient temperature. The dynamic the near-surface region a single crystal were monitored using near-ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) under oxygen rich conditions total 1.1 mbar. Six temperature cycles investigated different rates temperatures °C. It was found history bimetallic plays an important role, as profile varies depending initial conditions, previous temperatures. In terms coverage effects, normal, reversed no all agreement with modelling predictions, NAP-XPS data confirm upon heating/cooling where amount decreases increasing Nevertheless, 3d 5/2 core level relative area assessment is not fully capable capturing dynamics inferred from dependent profiles, due probing depth. While residing reaction mixture, however, there build-up adsorbed showing induces topmost layer these conditions. total, this suggests kinetically relatively cycling, adsorbate main controlling factor for termination.

Silicon Oxide Surface Segregation in CO Oxidation on Pd: An in situ PEEM, MS and XPS Study

ABSTRACT The effect of silicon oxide surface segregation on the locally-resolved kinetics of the CO oxidation reaction on individual grains of a polycrystalline Pd foil was studied in situ by PEEM, MS and XPS. The silicon oxide formation induced by Si-impurity segregation at oxidizing conditions, was monitored by XPS and its impact on the global and local (spatially resolved) kinetics of the CO...

Step dynamics and oxide formation during CO oxidation over a vicinal Pd surface.

In an attempt to bridge the material and pressure gaps - two major challenges for an atomic scale understanding of heterogeneous catalysis - we employed high-energy surface X-ray diffraction as a tool to study the Pd(553) surface in situ under changing reaction conditions during CO oxidation. The diffraction patterns recorded under CO rich reaction conditions are characteristic for the metallic...

CO Adsorption-Driven Surface Segregation of Pd on Au/Pd Bimetallic Surfaces: Role of Defects and Effect on CO Oxidation

We use density functional theory (DFT) to study CO-adsorption-induced Pd surface segregation in Au/Pd bimetallic surfaces, dynamics of Pd−Au swapping, effect of defects on the swapping rate, CO-induced Pd clustering, and the reaction mechanism of CO oxidation. The strong COphilic nature of Pd atoms supplies a driving force for the preferential surface segregation of Pd atoms and Pd cluster form...

CO Oxidation on the Pd(111) Surface

Under technologically relevant oxygen-rich conditions, the reaction mechanism of CO oxidation over transition metals can be complicated by the formation of oxides. Questions of whether the active surface for CO oxidation is a pristine metal, a surface oxide, or a bulk oxide is still under active debate. In this study, density functional theory calculations are used to model CO oxidation on the ...

Visualization of Gas Distribution in a Model AP-XPS Reactor by PLIF: CO Oxidation over a Pd(100) Catalyst

In situ knowledge of the gas phase around a catalyst is essential to make an accurate correlation between the catalytic activity and surface structure in operando studies. Although ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (AP-XPS) can provide information on the gas phase as well as the surface structure of a working catalyst, the gas phase detected has not been spatially resolved to da...
